7/9 – The new Louisianan law requiring schools to display the Ten Commandments is facing a legal challenge. H.B. 71, signed into law by Rep. Gov. Jeff Landry in June, mandates that a poster of the state-approved version of the Ten Commandments be displayed in every classroom of every state-funded school. Plaintiffs, who represent nine “multi-faith families” with children enrolled in Louisiana public schools, have filled a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the new law, which they claim violates both Supreme Court precedent and the First Amendment.
