2/13 – Richard Prince, American painter and photographer, is considered one of the most revered artists of his generation. He also recently agreed to pay $650,000 to two photographers whose works he featured in an exhibition. The original photographs were displayed (largely unaltered) as Instagram posts with commentary added by Prince. While this style of Appropriation Art has been around for decades, recently it has been the subject of much litigation as courts grapple with the line between transformation and recontextualization.
