3/14 – A Minneapolis federal appeals court panel heard arguments on an appeal of a ruling that found former Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa had infringed on the copyright of the ‘Success Kid’ (one of the internets most popular memes and photographs) and his mother. An Iowa jury ordered King to pay the statutory minimum of $750 after using the meme in a fundraising post. King had unsuccessfully argued that the widespread use of the photo across the Internet gave him an implied license to use it.
